So, last night I was going to dinner at Radisson Blu, Victoria Island from the Lagos mainland office. I was running a little late, as per usual, so was just moving as fast as possible to get there. I then did something I never do in Lagos, I looked at the speedometer. 140mph. I took a minute to reflect on why I love Lagos, Nigeria and Africa. No rules. You basically beat your own path.
When I am in different parts of the world (London, Accra, NYC JoBurg for example), they all feel so safe and sanitized. So boring. Rules and regulations are a great thing. But in wealth creation you need to disrupt something. In the frontier economies, sharp guys reign supreme because disruption is just simply in the air. In London, Accra, NYC JoBurg, I would have been acutely aware of my speedometer as I would be actively trying to avoid speed cameras or the police. In Lagos? Who cares which speed you are moving at. As long as you are moving.
