The day I lost my little sister.

2 years ago today, 16th July 2011, my mum called me to tell me my little sister Ann Marie had passed away at the age of 28. At that time I was riding a wave of euphoria as iROKO was mid way through the due diligence process for our series A with Tiger Global and finally my first company was beginning to take off. It appeared my stars were finally aligned.
Then my world stopped spinning. Nothing else mattered. The immense pain and sorrow of mourning overwhelmed it. Death is something no one plans for. It makes everything else pale into comparison. Yes we all eventually die. But its not something you can ultimately plan or truly prepare for. Especially if its a young person and you don’t see it coming. I wanted to write a eulogy for my sister on her 30th birthday on 1st July 2013 but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Crying doesn’t come naturally to me, but that eulogy I could not write.
