So we listened. Folks were screaming. We found a quick fix to the delayed satisfaction of those outside of Africa with unlimited data plans. The above screenshots show the modifications we are pushing this week on the new Android app that have been made that allow progressive downloading when outside of Africa. That means that the video can be played immediately after acquiring a license, and before completing a download, which usually occurs somewhere between 5% and 20% of download progress. The app will now display a triangular PLAY icon when the download is ‘playable’.
The progressive download ability (the ability to play before fullydownloaded) will only be enabled for users outside of Africa with unlimited data plans.
This is primarily a user experience issue. We are seeing some amazing usage around downloads in Africa and average daily subscription has jumped 36%.
