Follow your users. Profits might be lurking there

So we started a little experiment earlier this year. Follow our users. An experiment which turned into a bigger experiment. We ended up following our users offline. A fundamental theme of all Spark companies is their ability to facilitate offline activity online. Thats it. Take the most horrendously inefficient offline activities in Nigeria and attempt to bring them online. With a first step aimed at improved efficiency. Card payments are marginal in Nigeria so allow easy access for cash on delivery (COD) and bank transfer. We extended this to iROKOtv. And we ended up in the DVD distribution business.

Today iROKOtv is largely a diaspora play. But even in the diaspora there are more Nollywood movie viewers offline than online, that is changing with the proliferation of connected devices but today its offline. In Africa the numbers are more extreme. I would say 95% of the addressable Nollywood movie watching population do not have access to broadband ...
