This is what disruption looks like. From a peak around 2000 of $63Bn, print newspaper advertising revenue lost 70% of its value in 10 years. And the pain hasn’t stopped. It will continue.
The future is coming. And there is nothing you can do to stop it. Be afraid. Be very afraid. I am. The unleashing of the power of the Internet will change everything in Nigeria. Forever. The old guard will die. If they resist, the death will be more painful. If it can happen to Blackberry, Nokia, Blockbuster, Circuit City, HMV, Intel, Microsoft, Dell, HP et al. it can (and will) happen to the dinosaurs in Nigeria. Nitel reigned supreme. Then it didn’t. That took 10 years to dismantle their hegemony. Look around you and be fearful for friends, families or colleagues who are in industries that in ten years’ time will cease to exists. Or perhaps be kept on life support as government ministries. Pray for them, advise them, when they become unemployed, support them.
