There is always a new shiny thing out to usurp iROKOtv as the number 1 distributor of Nollywood movies online. The list is long, some are more noisy or well marketed than the others, but all with one simple goal; to bring down iROKOtv. In Africa today, there are 50+ VOD platforms. I was speaking at Discop in Johannesburg and AfricaCast in Cape Town in early November. And literally everyday I would hear about a new VOD platform launching imminently. I actually stood up in my keynote in Cape Town and announced that 90% of the investors’ money will be wasted, the economics of VOD are brutal. It is literally one of the most expensive things you can do online. Not for the faint of heart.
