I was reading the awesome Forbes spread about the fastest growing gaming company ever, Supercell. They released 2 games during summer 2012 and already are generating $2.4Mn / day. Yes. In 24hrs they generate $2.4Mn! Incredible. Supercell generated $100Mn in revenue in 2012, and $179Mn in revenue in Q1 2013. Words struggle to explain that type of torrid growth. I was thinking, could a similar company explode like that in Nigeria and/or Africa? It finally dawned on me that would be largely impossible. Supercell benefits from the hidden hand of infrastructure being largely solved. Large and sophisticated user base? Check. Credible payments? Check. Undisrupted internet which insures continual game play? Check. Affluent consumers? Check. Time? Check.
This environment doesn’t exist in Nigeria. So that type of torrid revenue growth is impossible.
