900Mn ($5.6Mn) for the Super Eagles. A national disgrace.

<Rant> So, like everyone in Nigeria, I watched the Super Eagles defy odds after 19 years and win the African Cup of Nations 2013. They thoroughly deserved it, considering the nation at whole wrote them off. I love underdog stories, they inspire everyone with their passion, desire to win and ultimate success.
What has concerned me greatly is the Nigerian government officials doling out state money bestowing riches upon the Super Eagle squad members. Private individuals and corporates such has Guinness, GLO et al have lined up to provide prize money and incentives totalling, by some estimates, N900Mn. That’s fine as that’s what’s expected. Queue billboards covering Nigeria as brands align to position themselves with the winning team. What I think is horrendous is tax payers’ money is being spent on celebrating success.
