At 23:59 on the 31st December 2009, a few months into investigating another little project I was thinking of starting (iROKO), I was sitting at home, alone, staring at my computers and playing with Wordpress plug ins and HTML. Unsuccessful and dead broke (as usual) so nothing really awesome to celebrate, I called up my one true friend Bastian Gotter who was in Berlin at the time and told him, earnestly,
I think 2010 is going to be a big year. My year. Dude. It’s going to happen. Big!
There were no indications and nothing for me to grasp that 2010 would be any different from 2005–2009 where in terms of career or life progress I basically stood still. I just believed. Bastian laughed. Honestly he replied.
Yes Jason. 2010 is going to be fucking huge. Now get off your bloody computer and go have some fun. Don’t spend your NYE speaking with me!
2010 was huge. But not in commercial terms. The iROKO seed was planted. 2011 was the blockbuster year. Every year since then, awesome.
